Awhile ago I wrote about the fun and benefits of keeping a journal. That post was about how keeping an actual handwritten, 3-dimensional notebook can help a gal or guy with creativity and personal insight. At the same time, it become apparent to me that I needed some type of system for keeping all my professional writing assignments organized. While I was using a word processing application for writing articles and reviews, I had photos in one folder, contact names in another, notes in another. This was very inefficient. I wanted everything in one spot . . . one stop shopping, so to speak. So I went in search of some software applications that could help writers organize and sort their blog posts, articles and notes. I have also included some more robust applications for those of you who might be writing your next novel or e-book.
I have no idea why I didn’t check into this a long time ago, but since downloading and purchasing MacJournal (the application I selected for my own personal use) my writing life has changed. Everything is now organized into one place. The program allows for locking should you wish to keep your journal (or individual files) private. The best part is the ability to tag articles and posts and the very handy full-screen option which shuts everything out on my laptop and allows me to focus only on what I’m writing. Brilliant!
So here they are, some great software applications for writers. Most of these programs offer a trial version, so you can try before you buy. I hope one of them may suit your needs:

Thank you! This was on my wish list…things I needed to figure out for the New Year. I have been using Google Docs as a writing tool for the past few months. It offered enough functionality so that I could save, edit, and share different articles before sending them off to my editor or posting them to my blog. Having a journaling software on my MAC is going to be much easier (especially with the ability to store photos).
