Writing portfolio for Lisa Mikulski

Lisa Mikulski is a writer and photographer recently repatriated to the United States after four and a half years in Sweden. Now based in Boston, MA, Lisa’s words and images have appeared in numerous publications in print and online. While in living in Sweden, she wrote for Göteborg Daily, Simple Things – UK, The Swedish Institute, The Local Sweden, Nordstjernan, and Sleeklens. In the States, her work has been regularly featured in Artscope Magazine, Take Magazine, Venü Magazine, The New Haven Arts Paper, AIGA – The professional association for design, The Hartford Business Journal, and INK Publications.

Lisa is presently compiling her first book of black and white street photography from Connecticut, Boston, and Gothenburg. She is also working on her first memoir.

Having helped Artscope establish itself in Connecticut years ago, I was thrilled to contribute to Artscope’s 11th Anniversary issue with two articles as soon as I returned to the States in 2017.
From the editor: “Lisa Mikulski, who returns to these pages after four years in Sweden, interviews Haiti-born Duken Delpe, whose recyclable and found object creations are headed for Art Olympia in Tokyo, Japan, and this year’s South Shore Indie Music Festival; his work can currently be seen at Boston’s Liquid Art House and W Hotel. She also previewed the Copley Society of Art’s “Shaken and Stirred: 2017 Winter Members Show.”

Living now in Göteborg, Nasser, a self exiled political refugee focuses on human rights violations and revolution in Yemen. Sweden Seems to Forget the ‘Other’ Immigrants – for The Local Sweden (May 22, 2014)
This piece was picked up by The Local for publication in 2014. It examines the Swedish idea of immigration and what is meant by integration in that Scandinavian country. This piece along with another on immigration helped to kick start my writing career in Europe.

It just seemed perfect to match Lisa Mikulski, who helped Artscope establish itself in Connecticut before she moved to Sweden over a year ago, with the Hungarian photographer Adam Magyar, whose “Kontinuum” exhibition is on view at the Griffin Museum of Photography; they engaged in an email interview as Magyar flew from Japan to Germany to Lexington, Mass. for his opening reception.”

A Gothenburg hotel concept that is part social commentary, part installation, received worldwide attention by inviting guests to pay to be homeless for a night in the city.

Meet AIGA – for INK Magazine (Aug 2010)
While the national organization for AIGA has long been established, I sat on the Board of Directors for the newly founded Connecticut chapter for the Professional Association of Design. During my tenure, I provided for AIGA their first ever non-trade article in INK Publications.
